Supplying Malta, in detail

What does it cost us if Freeport transhipment cargo is entered into Malta by mistake?

A customs round trip nobody needed. Marsaxlokk transhipes a very large volume that never enters the island, and goods only staging through it should be documented that way from the outset rather than imported and re-exported. We ask at quotation whether Malta is the destination or the waypoint and raise the file accordingly, so cargo for Marsa is entered and cargo for elsewhere is not.

Why do you ask for the vessel’s sailing date before quoting a Grand Harbour repair?

Because a repair item that arrives after the ship has left is not late, it is useless, and you will have sourced it elsewhere at a premium. Sea freight to Marsaxlokk takes typically 14–20 days; if the date does not allow it, we would rather quote air freight into Luqa honestly than a sea lane that misses. A single urgent hose is a normal order on this lane.

Which does a Maltese surveyor check — the CE mark, the test certificate or the type approval?

They are different documents and may all be needed. The CE mark and our PED 2014/68/EU declaration apply to a hose assembly above the pressure-volume threshold; below it there is no mark. A test certificate belongs to the individual assembly. Type approval belongs to the product and is granted by the class society the vessel is registered with. Name the society before we quote, because testing cannot replace an approval the type does not have.

Can goods discharged at the Freeport go straight on to a workshop at Marsa or Ħal Far?

Yes, on DAP terms. The island is small enough that the road leg from the Freeport to Marsa, Cospicua or Ħal Far takes minutes rather than hours, and we price it with the order. Give us the yard, the berth or workshop and receiving hours, and the quotation covers delivery to the gate rather than stopping at the quay.

Does an air shipment to Luqa fly direct from Dubai?

No — air freight from Dubai to Luqa goes with a connection and takes typically 2–4 days. That still beats 14–20 days by sea when a vessel is due to leave the yard. For planned work, or anything bulky, the sea lane through Suez to Marsaxlokk is the sensible default and the documentation is prepared before the vessel sails.

Do you supply governor and actuator hydraulics for the Delimara power station?

Yes — governor and actuator hydraulics, hose assemblies, valves and fittings, matched to the plant’s original part numbers or data plates. Delimara is a short road leg from Marsaxlokk, so goods are delivered on DAP terms. Send the equipment details and the fitting standard with the enquiry, and we confirm the match at quotation rather than offering a near equivalent on a unit the island grid depends on.

Which hose cover lasts in the limestone dust of a Maltese quarry?

An abrasion-resistant cover with protective sleeving where the hose rubs, rather than a standard construction. Fine limestone dust is hard on covers and seals on excavators, wire and chain saws, loaders and crushers. Tell us the machine and the duty cycle, and the assemblies are made up to length in Dubai with that cover, shipped to Marsaxlokk and delivered to the quarry on DAP terms.

Do you supply transfer hose and couplings for bunkering and fuel terminals around Malta?

Yes. Industrial transfer hose, couplings, valves and hydraulic hose for bunker barges, fuel terminals at Birżebbuġa and the vessels working the offshore bunkering anchorages ship to Marsaxlokk with their test certificates. Can you supply hose and valves for Malta’s reverse-osmosis water plants?

How does a delivery reach Gozo from Marsaxlokk?

By road and ferry. Cargo clears at Marsaxlokk and continues by truck on the Gozo Channel ferry from Ċirkewwa to Mġarr, delivered to the site in Victoria or elsewhere on the island. That leg is quoted with the order rather than estimated, because ferry space for freight vehicles varies with the season. Give us the delivery address and receiving hours at enquiry.
