Cold start is where the damage happens

Hydraulic fluid thickens as it cools, and a machine started and worked hard before it has warmed through will cavitate its pump and stress every line in the circuit. The damage is cumulative and invisible until something fails in a way that looks unrelated. Warming through before load is the operational answer; on the component side it means fluid with the right viscosity index for the actual winter minimum and hose that stays flexible at it. A machine that lives outdoors year-round needs to be specified for the worst month, not the average.
