Supplying Latvia, in detail

Does Latvia’s 1520 mm rail gauge affect a delivery to our site?

Only if the consignment travels on by rail. Latvian railways run on 1520 mm rather than the European 1435 mm, so a box that has to change between the two meets a gauge break and a transhipment. A container delivered from Riga by road is unaffected. If your site is rail-served, say so at enquiry and the rail-gauge note becomes part of the quotation, because an unplanned transhipment is the expensive kind.

When is Ventspils worth using instead of Riga?

When the cargo is project or heavy-lift rather than a stock order. Riga handles containers and most industrial cargo and is the default for the 28–36 day sea lane. Ventspils is deep-water and built for bulk and heavy lift, so it suits a large skid, reel or crane component. Liepāja is used where the berth suits a delivery in Kurzeme. The port is named on the quotation.

Can you build crane and spreader hose for terminals at the Freeport of Riga?

Yes. Ship-to-shore cranes, spreaders, conveyors and ro-ro ramps work outdoors in salt and cold rather than in a workshop, so we specify the cover material as carefully as the reinforcement and make each assembly up to length with the fitting ends your equipment uses. Send the crane or spreader model, or the old assembly’s markings, and we quote against them for sea freight to Riga.

Our quayside hose cracks after one winter — what should we change?

Usually the cover compound, not the reinforcement. A standard compound stiffens well above Latvian winter temperatures and cracks where it flexes, and salt then reaches the wire. For exposed quayside and outdoor duty we specify low-temperature material with a cover chosen for abrasion and weathering, and we say plainly when a catalogue item is unsuitable. Send the site’s winter minimum and the duty with the enquiry.

Do you supply hose and fittings for harvesters, forwarders and sawmill equipment in Latvia?

Yes — hose assemblies made up to length, fittings and adapters for forestry machines and log-handling plant, including the low-temperature compounds outdoor timber work needs. Many of these machines are Nordic-built, so send the make, model and fitting ends rather than a local part number and we match the pattern. Assemblies ship by sea to Riga, or by air when a machine is standing in the forest.

Do crane and ramp hose assemblies for a Latvian terminal need a PED declaration?

Only where the assembly sits above the pressure-volume threshold in PED 2014/68/EU. In that case it carries CE marking and we issue the declaration of conformity as the assembler before dispatch, and it travels with the goods to Riga. Below the threshold sound engineering practice applies and there is no mark. A terminal order often contains both, and the quotation states which line is which.

Who enters the goods into free circulation when they reach Riga?

The importer, through Latvian Customs, on arrival. Latvia applies the ordinary single European entry, so there is one clearance at the port. We prepare the Dubai Chamber attested Certificate of Origin, the PED declaration where an assembly is above threshold and our REACH position on the elastomer compounds before the vessel sails, so the entry can be prepared while the cargo is still at sea.

Do you supply excavator and piling-rig hydraulics for Rail Baltica contractors?

Yes — hose assemblies made up to length, fittings and adapters in BSP, JIC, ORFS and DIN patterns for the excavators, cranes and piling rigs working on Latvian civil projects, the Rail Baltica corridor included. Send the machine make and model or the fitting ends and we quote against them, with sea freight to Riga as the default and air freight when a machine is standing on site.

Is there a direct air route from Dubai to Riga for urgent parts?

Air freight runs from DXB to RIX with a connection, typically 2–4 days, and it is the route we use when a line or machine is down. For anything that can wait, sea freight to Riga in 28–36 days costs far less. Where an urgent part and a larger order are both open, we often fly the critical assembly and send the rest by sea.

Can you supply valves and hose for the Ventspils and Riga tank terminals?

Yes — valves, industrial hose, fittings and hose assemblies for tank-farm, loading and transhipment duty. Tell us the product handled, its temperature and the working pressure rather than a part number, because a compound right for one medium is wrong for another. Ventspils cargo can land at Ventspils directly, and the PED declaration is prepared where an assembly is above threshold.

Do you deliver as far as Daugavpils and Rēzekne?

Yes, on DAP terms to the buyer’s site anywhere in Latvia, including Daugavpils, Rēzekne, Valmiera and Jelgava. The goods arrive at Riga, the importer raises the customs entry, and the road leg to your site is priced with the order rather than left at the quay. We also quote CIF Riga, FOB Jebel Ali, or EXW Dubai for a forwarder you nominate.
