In a validated facility a component carries a paper trail from the material it was made of through to the person who installed it, and a substitution made sensibly on the floor becomes a deviation that has to be written up. That is why an equivalent part is rarely welcome even when it is technically better. What helps is knowing before the order which certification level applies to each line, because obtaining it retrospectively ranges from expensive to impossible.
