Supplying South Africa, in detail

Why import hydraulic hose from Dubai when South Africa has local distributors?

Usually you should not, for standard two-wire hose. Importing makes sense for the long tail: metallic assemblies in Hastelloy, Inconel or Monel, couplings to Gulf and CIS standards such as GOST, and food-grade and chemical-transfer hose in specifications local stock does not run to. Send the specification rather than the part number, because our equivalent may carry a different designation.

What is a Letter of Authority and do I need one?

It is an authorisation from the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications for products covered by a compulsory specification, issued against the specific product rather than the supplier or shipment. Not everything needs one. We confirm at quotation which lines on your list fall inside a compulsory specification, and say so where they do not.

How long does shipping from Dubai to Durban take?

Typically 14–20 days by sea in a full container from dispatch, on a direct route down the East African coast with no canal transit and no Cape rounding. Consolidated LCL with transshipment takes 20–26 days. Cape Town, Ngqura and Richards Bay are served on the same rotation.

How long does delivery to Johannesburg take?

Fourteen to twenty days by sea to Durban, plus the road leg to Gauteng. When a line is down, air freight from Dubai into Johannesburg (JNB) runs 4–6 days and is quoted per shipment. DAP delivery to a Reef or Vaal site is quoted against the actual address.

What does the importer need before the goods arrive?

A customs code registered with SARS, in the importer’s name, before the consignment lands. It is quick to obtain but not instant, so a first-time importer should apply when the order is placed. We supply the Certificate of Origin attested by the Dubai Chamber, the bill of lading and packing list, and material and test certificates where the order calls for them.

Can you supply mining operations?

Yes. Platinum, coal and iron ore work is the bulk of what we ship into the region — high-cycle cylinders, four-spiral hose, crusher-duty components and dust-rated valves, with material certificates where the contract calls for them. Lifting and rigging items can be added to the same consignment; we confirm the certificate set at quotation.

Can you deliver to Kathu, Rustenburg and the Bushveld?

Yes, on DAP terms to the mine gate. The inland leg from Durban to the Northern Cape, North West or Limpopo is quoted against the actual address rather than estimated. Tell us the site at quotation and the freight figure will include it.

Do you supply to synfuels and refinery specifications?

Yes. API 6A and API 16C rated equipment, SS316L fittings for process service, and NACE MR0175 documentation where the contract requires it. For Secunda, Sasolburg or Durban refinery work we can also quote metallic hose in exotic alloys and chemical-transfer hose to the media and temperature on your data sheet.

Do you crimp and pressure-test hose assemblies before shipping to South African mines and plants?

Yes. Assemblies are crimped and pressure-tested in Dubai and shipped as finished items, tagged with the hose, the fitting and the test date. That is most useful for non-standard end connections — GOST, JIS or Gulf-standard couplings — that a local crimping shop may not have dies or fittings for.

How do we request a quotation from South Africa?

Send the specification for each line — media, pressure, temperature, end connections and standard — with quantities and the delivery address. Quotations are in USD, which keeps customs valuation and bank documentation consistent, and lead time is quoted per consignment. We flag any Letter of Authority requirement on the same quotation.
