Supplying Greece, in detail

Can a Piraeus ship manager have spares marked to the vessel rather than the purchase order?

Yes, and on this lane it is the normal way to ship. A fleet spare is bought against a class approval and fitted months later on a ship that may be in another ocean, so we mark each item to the vessel, pack its certificate with it and keep the purchase order on the paperwork. Give us the vessel name with each requisition line and the marking follows from dispatch in Dubai.

What happens if the item we need has no approval from our vessel’s class society?

We tell you at quotation, before anything is shipped. Name the society and the approval your specification calls for, and we say plainly whether the item carries it. We will not ship against a class requirement we cannot evidence and leave the surveyor to discover the gap, because a spare refused on board costs far more than one re-sourced from the office in Piraeus.

Where does the PED declaration travel when a spare goes into a ship’s store?

With the item, not to the office. For a hose assembly above the pressure-volume threshold in PED 2014/68/EU, we issue the declaration of conformity as the assembler and pack it with the goods alongside any class certificate, so it is still there when the spare is fitted. Below the threshold sound engineering practice applies and there is no mark, and we say which side each line falls on at quotation.

Is Thessaloniki the better gate for northern Greece and the Balkan corridor?

Yes, for northern delivery. Thessaloniki is the shorter gate for Central and Eastern Macedonia, Kavala and cargo continuing north into the Balkan corridor. Piraeus remains the port for Attica, the islands and fleet orders, with full containers typically 12–18 days from Jebel Ali through Suez. We pick the port against the delivery town and price the onward road leg on DAP terms.

How does cargo get from Piraeus to Crete or an Aegean island?

By domestic feeder from Piraeus to Heraklion and the larger Aegean ports such as Syros. The cargo clears at Piraeus and the island leg, is quoted rather than estimated because island sailings are less frequent than the mainland assumes. For an island power station or quarry with a stopped machine, tell us the date it matters and we plan the feeder connection into the quotation.

Can spares be delivered to the ship’s agent at a Gulf or Red Sea port of call?

Yes, on DAP terms to the agent at the port. For a vessel transiting the Gulf, Suez or the Indian Ocean, Dubai is often the closest source, and delivering to the next port of call avoids shipping to Piraeus and forwarding again. Send the port, the agent’s details and the berthing window with the part list, and the order becomes one delivery instead of two.

Will a hose spare still be serviceable after a year in a ship’s store?

It should be, if it is stored properly, and we pack for that. Assemblies ship with their ends capped, sealed against moisture and dust, and with the certificate inside the pack rather than in an email. The manufacture date stays legible on the hose layline, so your superintendent can see the age of a spare before fitting it. Tell us at quotation if the item is going into long-term storage aboard.

Do you supply transfer hose and valves for the refineries on the Saronic Gulf and near Corinth?

Yes. Industrial transfer hose and couplings, valves, and hydraulic hose and fittings for turnaround, jetty and tank-farm work at Aspropyrgos, Elefsina and Corinth ship together from Jebel Ali to Piraeus, a short road leg from all three. Send the datasheet with media, temperature, pressure class and end connections, and any material documentation the site requires, so it is confirmed at quotation rather than chased at the gate.

Can you supply the aluminium smelter and bauxite mines in Viotia and Fokida?

Yes. High-force cylinders, servo valves and hose assemblies for the smelter at Agios Nikolaos, and dust-rated, high-cycle hose and fittings for loaders, drill rigs and crushers in the Parnassos–Giona bauxite area, ship to Piraeus and on by road on DAP terms. Send the data-plate details or the old assembly’s markings and we match the fitting standard rather than approximating it.

Can a ship in the Perama repair zone get an assembly built from the failed one’s markings?

Yes — crimped to length and pressure-tested in Dubai, then shipped to Piraeus with the test record and any class certificate packed alongside. Send the drawing or the markings on the failed assembly, the working pressure and both end fittings. A repair item works to the date the ship leaves the yard, so give us that date at quotation and we will tell you honestly whether sea freight meets it or air into Athens is needed.
