Brazil makes much of what we sell, so standard items are better bought at home. What reaches us is the exception: pre-salt and offshore specification work out of Macaé and Rio, or a make or alloy local production does not run to. Supplying Brazil, in detail

Which Brazilian enquiries is a Dubai supplier actually the right choice for?

Specification-driven ones, not routine replenishment. Brazil has its own hose manufacturers and a dense distributor network, so for a standard item the freight and the six-week wait buy you nothing. Send us the exceptions: a make a project specification names and will not accept an equivalent for, an alloy or construction outside what local production runs to, or a documented item where the certification is the deliverable, such as offshore work out of Macaé and Rio.

Is our hose line inside INMETRO’s scope, and is it certified per shipment?

Often it is outside, and where it is inside, certification is per product, not per shipment. INMETRO runs Brazil’s conformity assessment programmes over a defined list of products, and much industrial hose and fittings sits outside it. Where a line is inside, an accredited certification body certifies the product, so it is settled at quotation once and then holds for every future order of the same line.

Does our RADAR registration need to cover the tariff lines before you load?

Yes, and it is the first thing we ask for. Brazil checks who is importing before what is being imported: the importer’s RADAR registration through Receita Federal, and any import licence (LI) through Siscomex that the tariff line requires, must cover the goods. If they do not, the consignment cannot clear however clean the rest of the file is, so we confirm coverage before the vessel sails.

Why is there no faster sea route from the Gulf to Santos than round the Cape?

Because Santos sits on the far side of the South Atlantic, and the Cape of Good Hope is the direct line from Jebel Ali. FCL transit is typically 32 to 42 days from dispatch and LCL, with transhipment, 40 to 52 days. That is why registration, licence and certification work is done while the order is picked: it costs nothing in time then, and a great deal if it is left until the container is at the pier.

Should our container go to Santos, Rio de Janeiro or Macaé?

Santos for general cargo and the São Paulo, Campinas and interior industrial belt; Rio de Janeiro or Macaé when the goods are for the offshore basins; Suape or Salvador for the north-east. Sites near Itaguaí or Vitória are usually served through Rio or Santos and a road leg, and we confirm the best routing at quotation. Naming the delivery city lets us choose rather than default to Santos.

Can you supply wellhead and pressure-control equipment for pre-salt and Campos basin work?

Yes, to API 6A for wellhead and API 16A for BOP equipment, with NACE MR0175 material documentation where the contract requires it. We supply TechnipFMC, Cameron (SLB), SPM, Anson, Stream-Flo and WOM equipment, and quote against the operator’s data sheet for the Santos and Campos basin programmes supported from Macaé and Rio. Tell us the pressure class, temperature rating and material class, and whether the contract names a make.

Do you supply API 7K drilling hose and API 16C choke-and-kill lines for rigs off Brazil?

Yes. API 7K rotary, vibrator and drilling hose and API 16C choke-and-kill equipment, with material and test certificates and NACE MR0175 documentation where the contract calls for it. For offshore rigs and support vessels the useful enquiry gives bore, working pressure, end connections and length, and the certificate set the operator expects in the data book, so the documents are agreed before anything is built.

Is air freight into Guarulhos worth it for a single failed hose on a Macaé support vessel?

When the vessel or the line is down, usually yes. Air freight from Dubai to São Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) takes 5 to 8 days with a connection, against 32 to 42 days by sea. The importer’s registration and licence coverage still apply to an air consignment, so a buyer who has cleared the same line before is the one who gains most from flying it. Planned spares belong on the sea lane.

Can you supply abrasion-resistant hose for iron ore operations in Carajás and Minas Gerais?

Yes — abrasion-resistant covers, high-cycle assemblies and spiral hose to EN 856 and SAE J517 for shovels, haul trucks, crushers and ore-handling plant. Iron ore fines and constant cycling wear a cover faster than pressure alone suggests. Tell us the machine, the circuit and the shift pattern in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero or at Carajás, and we specify against the duty rather than the catalogue number on the failed hose.

What has to agree across the Portuguese invoice, packing list and declaration?

The goods description, quantities and values, word for word. Brazilian documents are in Portuguese, and a description that drifts between the commercial invoice, the packing list and the import declaration is queried — and a queried consignment waits at a port six weeks from Dubai. We fix the Portuguese wording at quotation, alongside the Dubai Chamber attested certificate of origin, rather than letting a translation be improvised at dispatch.

What goes into a Brazilian enquiry so the quote matches the import file?

The line list with part numbers or specifications, the delivery city, and confirmation that your RADAR registration and any import licence cover the tariff lines. Say whether the order is for offshore work out of Macaé or Rio, mining in Minas Gerais or Pará, or plant elsewhere, and name any make the specification insists on. We return CIF Santos, DAP to site, FOB Jebel Ali or EXW Dubai as you need.
