Near hot metal, a pinhole is an ignition source

Mineral oil released as a fine spray onto hot steel ignites, and the failure that causes it need not be dramatic — a pinhole in a cover is enough. That is why mill hydraulics move to fire-resistant fluids, and why the hose has to be compatible with whichever type was chosen, since water-glycol and phosphate ester attack quite different things. Protective sleeving matters too, both to keep radiant heat off the cover and to contain a spray if one occurs. Tell us the fluid designation rather than the phrase fire-resistant; the four families are not interchangeable.
