Supplying Portugal, in detail

Why does cargo to Portugal take longer than to Spain?

Because Portugal is past Gibraltar rather than inside the Mediterranean. Valencia is a Suez-to-Med run of typically 18–24 days; Sines carries on into the Atlantic at 22–28. It is only a few days, but it is the reason a Spanish port is occasionally the better gate for a northern Portuguese delivery, and we check that against your town at quotation.

Sines, Lisbon or Leixões — which port suits our delivery?

Sines takes the largest vessels and suits the south and the Alentejo; Lisbon serves the estuary and Setúbal; Leixões is the answer for Porto, Braga, Aveiro and the industrial north, where the road leg from Sines is most of a day. Small mixed orders travel consolidated, transhipped at Algeciras, in typically 28–36 days, against 22–28 for a full container.

Can you supply precision hydraulics for the mould makers around Marinha Grande?

Yes — precision valves, high-force cylinders and hose assemblies for injection, forming and machining plant in the Marinha Grande and Leiria cluster. Tell us the cycle time and the duty rather than the part number, because that is what decides the seal and hose choice on a machine that cycles around the clock, and it is the difference between an assembly that lasts a season and one that lasts years.

Iberian distribution is good — why would a Portuguese buyer import from Dubai?

For a standard item they should not. The narrow reason is a pattern we hold as stock — SS316L thread forms, GOST couplings, API-monogrammed assemblies — usually for equipment being built in Portugal for export to a market with a different standard. Send the destination specification rather than a local part number and we quote against it, with the material documentation the receiving country expects.

Does the packing list for Portuguese Customs have to be in Portuguese?

Yes. We issue the packing list in Portuguese at dispatch, and the description agrees across the invoice, the packing list and the importer’s declaration into free circulation. The wording is settled at quotation, before the vessel sails, so there is nothing to translate or reconcile when the goods arrive at Sines, Lisbon or Leixões.

What paperwork travels with a hose consignment landing at Sines?

A declaration of conformity for any assembly above the pressure-volume threshold in PED 2014/68/EU — below it, sound engineering practice applies and there is no CE mark — plus our REACH position on the elastomer compounds, a Dubai Chamber-attested Certificate of Origin and the Portuguese packing list. The importer raises the single entry into free circulation through Portuguese Customs on arrival.

Which hose lasts in the hot, wet sections of a Portuguese pulp mill?

One chosen for the outside as much as the inside. In mills such as those at Figueira da Foz, Setúbal and Aveiro, a line near steam ages from the cover inward, moisture reaches the wire reinforcement and corrosion finishes it. Where a run cannot be moved away from heat, protective sleeving and a cover compound chosen for external conditions extend its life, and both cost less than an unplanned stop between shutdowns.

Can you deliver to Neves-Corvo and the other Alentejo mines?

Yes, on DAP terms to the mine gate, with the road leg from Sines priced into the quotation. Neves-Corvo and Aljustrel work copper and zinc in the Iberian Pyrite Belt, and their underground fleets need dust-rated, high-cycle hose and fittings. Tell us the machine and the duty, and we specify against the service rather than a part number alone.

Do you supply hydraulics for ship repair at Setúbal and the Viana do Castelo yard?

Yes — hose assemblies, fittings and adapters for deck machinery, steering and winch circuits on repair and newbuild work at Setúbal, Lisbon and Viana do Castelo. Repair runs to dock dates, so tell us the docking window at enquiry: sea freight is typically 22–28 days, and air into Lisbon in 2–5 days with a connection covers the item that cannot wait for the vessel.

Can you support refinery and terminal maintenance at Sines?

Yes. Sines combines a refinery, a petrochemical complex and an LNG terminal beside the deep-water port, and we can supply industrial hose, valves, SS316L fittings and hose assemblies for turnaround and routine maintenance there and at the Lisbon estuary terminals. Because Sines is also our default port of entry, deliveries to the complex have the shortest inland leg on this lane.

How do you stop a mill reordering the wrong assembly after a shutdown?

By tagging each assembly permanently with your equipment number or maintenance code rather than ours. Assemblies are cut, crimped and pressure-tested in Dubai to your lengths, with DIN metric, BSP, JIC or ORFS ends, and the tag ties each one to the position it serves, so a pulp mill or mould shop can reorder the exact build next time instead of measuring an old hose on the floor.
