Supplying Iceland, in detail

Is it better for Icelandic cargo to tranship at Rotterdam or Hamburg?

Whichever makes the earlier feeder connection, because nothing sails to Iceland directly from the Gulf and the weekly feeder sets the date more than the distance does. A full container runs 32–42 days from dispatch; LCL, with two transhipments, 38–50 days. Missing a connection costs a week rather than a day, so we choose the hub that catches a named sailing rather than quoting against an average schedule.

What should we tell you about a geothermal line at Hellisheiði or Svartsengi?

The temperature, the pressure and whether the medium is steam or high-temperature water, and whether it carries dissolved solids. A standard compound is the wrong answer for geothermal service, and we will say so rather than supply to the bore. With those facts we specify the compound and construction, issue a temperature and medium statement at quotation, and add the PED declaration where the assembly is above threshold.

Should trawl-winch hose and processing-deck hose on the same vessel be specified differently?

Yes. A trawl winch line needs salt resistance and mechanical toughness; a line inside the processing deck must be cleanable, tolerate wash-down chemicals and hot water, and be acceptable near product. One hose specified for the whole boat does one job adequately and the other badly. Split the list by where each assembly runs and we make them up to length, identified by position, on one consignment.

Iceland is outside the EU — does a CE declaration still apply to our hose assemblies?

Yes. Iceland applies the European framework through the EEA, so a hose assembly above the pressure-volume threshold in PED 2014/68/EU needs the same declaration of conformity a member state would expect. We issue it as the assembler before dispatch and it travels with the goods. Below the threshold sound engineering practice applies and there is no mark.

Do goods transhipped at Rotterdam reach Reykjavík already in EU free circulation?

No. Iceland is in the EEA rather than the EU customs union, so goods do not arrive in free circulation from a European port; the importer makes a customs import declaration through Iceland Revenue and Customs. It is a straightforward entry, but it is its own file, supported by our invoice, the PED declaration where it applies and the Certificate of Origin, Dubai Chamber attested.

How do we stop a missed feeder adding a week to a Reykjavík delivery?

Consolidate and plan to a named sailing. On a weekly feeder, one consignment catching one sailing lands sooner and cheaper than three small ones spread across three weeks. Send requirements together, tell us the date the goods are needed, and we build the consignment to make a specific connection; we also say when holding a line for the next consignment is the better answer.

Can you supply potline and casthouse hydraulics for the Straumsvík, Grundartangi and Reyðarfjörður smelters?

Yes — high-force cylinders, servo valves and heat-resistant hose for potline, casthouse and handling equipment, where heat and continuous duty set the specification. Goods land at Reykjavík on the feeder and go DAP to the smelter; for Reyðarfjörður the onward leg is quoted with the order. Send the drawing or nameplate data, the working temperature and the fluid, and we match against them.

Can goods be delivered to Akureyri or the East Fjords rather than Reykjavík?

Yes, on DAP terms to the buyer's site. Cargo lands at Reykjavík on the weekly feeder and the onward leg north or east is quoted with the order rather than estimated. For a breakdown, air freight from Dubai into Keflavík takes 3–5 days with a connection. Name the delivery town and consignee at enquiry so the feeder and the domestic leg are planned together.

Can a season's earthmoving and tunnelling spares for Reykjanes or a road tunnel travel on one feeder sailing?

Yes, and on this lane it is the sensible way to buy. Excavator, crane, drill-rig and tunnelling hydraulics, with hose made up to length and fittings matched to the machine, are consolidated into one consignment built to catch a named feeder. Send the fleet list with makes and models, or the old assemblies' dimensions and end fittings, and the date the season starts; anything urgent later can fly into Keflavík in 3–5 days.

Can you supply fuel-transfer and bunkering hose for the Reykjavík and Reyðarfjörður terminals?

Yes — fuel transfer hose, couplings and valves for terminal and bunkering work, shipped with any hydraulic spares on the same consignment. Send the bore, length, media, working pressure and end connections and we confirm the construction and the certificates that travel with it. Our REACH position on the elastomer compounds is stated at quotation, and the PED declaration accompanies any assembly above threshold.
