Why does the letter of credit matter so much for Ethiopian imports?

Because the goods cannot ship without it. Ethiopia allocates foreign exchange through the banking system, so the import permit and the bank’s approval of the letter of credit come before shipment. A quotation the bank will accept, line by line with the Incoterm and tariff lines stated, is part of what we send you, and we hold the order until the credit is confirmed.

Can you issue a proforma invoice for an Ethiopian import permit or LC?

Yes. Our quotation is issued line by line with part numbers, quantities, the Incoterm and the tariff lines stated, which is the form an Ethiopian bank needs to process the import permit and the letter of credit. The bank will usually require it in USD. If your bank asks for a specific layout, send it at the start and we will match it.

Where does a consignment for Ethiopia clear customs?

At the dry port at Modjo rather than at the border. Containers discharge at Djibouti, move by road up the corridor through Galafi under Djibouti transit documents arranged by the nominated forwarder, and are cleared inland at Modjo. That keeps clearance close to Addis Ababa and the industrial parks rather than at a remote border post.

Which documents are needed to ship hydraulic parts to Ethiopia?

The import permit, obtained by the consignee through the licensing authority, and the bank-approved letter of credit come first. Then come the Djibouti transit documents from the nominated forwarder, a Certificate of Origin attested by Dubai Chamber, and material and test certificates where the order calls for them. Any further document a specific bank or contract requires is confirmed at quotation.

How long does delivery to Addis Ababa take?

Fourteen to eighteen days by sea to Djibouti and road to Modjo, counted once the import permit and letter of credit are in place; the final leg to Addis Ababa is short. Air freight into Addis Ababa Bole runs three to five days. Because the paperwork is the real gate, starting the permit and LC early saves more time than any freight choice.

Can you supply hydropower and irrigation gate hydraulics?

Yes. Gate operators, long-stroke cylinders and governor systems are supplied against the specification named in the contract, with test certificates. That covers spillway and intake gates at hydropower stations as well as irrigation barrages and canal structures. Send the drawings or the cylinder data sheet and we will quote against the stroke, bore and operating pressure specified.

Can you deliver to industrial parks outside Addis Ababa?

Yes, on DAP terms to the gate. Hawassa, Adama, Kombolcha and Dire Dawa each add a road leg beyond the Modjo dry port that is quoted rather than estimated. Dire Dawa sits close to the Djibouti corridor; Hawassa and Kombolcha are further from it. The delivery address belongs on the request so the bank documents and the freight match.

How should a new Ethiopian factory standardise its hydraulic fittings?

Decide at commissioning, while it is cheap. A plant assembled from several machinery makers can end up carrying four thread families and a spares holding far larger than it needs; converting later is a shutdown job. At commissioning it is a handful of adapters. We will quote the conversion honestly, including where a machine should stay exactly as its maker supplied it.

Do you crimp and pressure-test hose assemblies before shipping to Ethiopian factories?

Yes. Hose assemblies are cut to length, crimped and pressure-tested in Dubai and shipped as finished items, tagged with the hose, the fitting and the test date. For Ethiopian buyers that also simplifies the letter of credit: each assembly is one line with one part number, rather than separate hose, fittings and ferrules that the bank has to match.

Which standards do you supply hydraulic hose and fittings to?
