Supplying Myanmar, in detail

Why do you publish a 12–16 day sea leg but no door-to-door time for Myanmar?

Because the two are different questions. Jebel Ali to Thilawa is 12–16 days by sea, among the shorter lanes east of the Gulf and comparable with Malaysia. A door-to-door time would be a promise about corridors no supplier controls: the country has been in armed conflict since 2021, and which inland routes operate changes. So onward routing is confirmed per consignment, against what is actually running.

Who and what do you check before quoting a Myanmar buyer?

The buyer, the ultimate recipient, the end use and the installation site, all checked before we quote rather than after an order is taken. We screen this way because the measures that apply to Myanmar are drawn around particular organisations and activities rather than the country as a whole. Where we cannot satisfy ourselves, we decline plainly.

Which details let you screen a Myanmar enquiry quickly?

The end user, the installation site and the application, alongside the part list. Restrictions here turn on the identity of the ultimate recipient and the use of the equipment, so an enquiry that names all three can be assessed quickly. One that leaves them out cannot be assessed at all, and chasing the details afterwards costs time on both sides. Include the importer’s details as the consignee.

Will you tell us if you cannot supply an order?

Yes, clearly and at the screening stage. Where an enquiry falls outside what we are able to supply, we say so at that point rather than letting it lapse into silence or quoting first and withdrawing later. That applies to the counterparty, the end use and the installation site alike, and it is why screening comes before pricing on this lane.

Do containers discharge at Thilawa or in Yangon?

Our default sea routing is Jebel Ali to Thilawa, the terminal area downriver of Yangon, with Yangon named as an alternative port of entry where the sailing serves it. Either way the sea leg is 12–16 days. We confirm the discharge port with the routing at quotation, after screening has cleared, and quote CIF Yangon where that is the agreed basis.

Will you quote delivery to Mandalay or a site away from Yangon?

Only where a route can genuinely be committed. We quote DAP where that is true and to the quay where it is not, and the quotation says which rather than implying a door delivery we cannot stand behind. Onward routing is confirmed against the corridors actually operating at the time, not a published map, and screening of the recipient and site comes first.

Which licence must the Myanmar consignee hold?

An import licence held by the consignee, with confirmation that it covers the goods on the invoice. Beyond that the file is the customs declaration raised by the importer, the commercial invoice and packing list, and a Certificate of Origin attested by the Dubai Chamber. We prepare our documents only after counterparty and end-use screening has cleared, and before the vessel sails.

What does cargo cover on a Thilawa consignment actually insure?

Whatever scope we state in the quotation, because cover is arranged per consignment, priced in, and its scope written down before you accept. Because the inland leg varies with routing and conditions, what is insured on the sea leg and what is insured beyond the quay can differ, and we spell that out rather than leaving it to be discovered after a claim. Ask at enquiry if you need a particular scope of cover.

Why do you suggest landing several Myanmar orders as one consignment?

Because on a lane where the sea leg is reliable and the inland leg is not, one consignment landed and cleared together is far easier to move onward than several arriving separately, each needing its own routing. Each order still goes through screening, but a consolidated enquiry can be screened and routed once, which shortens the overall timeline.

Can an urgent part be flown to Yangon instead of waiting for a sailing?

Sometimes: air freight is offered only where the routing permits, and it is quoted per consignment rather than published. It makes sense for a small, urgent item where the sea leg would leave a line down. Screening applies exactly as it does to sea freight, so an air shipment cannot skip the counterparty and end-use checks, and onward delivery from the airport is confirmed in the same way as from the port.

If a hose fails on a Yangon site, what do you need to replace it?

The bore, thread, working pressure and length between fitting faces, or photographs of the failed assembly, plus the end user and site for screening. Once screening clears, assemblies are crimped in Dubai, pressure-tested and tagged with hose, fitting and test date, then packed as finished items, so nothing has to be made up after an uncertain inland move, and a repeat order can be placed by tag reference.
