Supplying Canada, in detail

Atlantic or Pacific — which lane will our Canadian shipment take?

Whichever ocean your delivery city is nearer. Montreal and Halifax are served through Suez and the Atlantic, typically 30–38 days to Montreal; Vancouver is reached eastbound through Malacca and the Pacific in 28–36. They are genuinely different lanes and the wrong choice costs a fortnight, so we fix the ocean against the delivery city before quoting anything else.

Can cargo go through Halifax or Prince Rupert instead of Montreal or Vancouver?

Yes, where the delivery suits it. Halifax sits on the Atlantic routing through Suez, and Prince Rupert is a Pacific gateway on the Malacca side. Our published transit figures cover Montreal and Vancouver, so for Halifax or Prince Rupert we confirm the sailing and transit at quotation rather than assume them, along with the inland leg to site.

We build packages in Alberta for Gulf and Caspian contracts — can you supply the destination-standard parts?

Yes, and that is most of our Canadian trade. A package bound for the Gulf, Africa or the Caspian has to be plumbed to that market’s standard — GOST couplings, DIN bite-type fittings, BSP threads — which is stock for us. API 6A, 16A and 16C equipment and API 7K hose come on the same order, with NACE MR0175 documentation where the contract requires it.

Our equipment is deployed in Africa or Central Asia — can spares go there direct from Dubai?

Yes, and it is usually cheaper than routing them through Canada. A mine or rig in Africa or Central Asia is far closer to Jebel Ali than to Montreal or Vancouver. Tell us where the equipment actually is and we quote the lane that serves it, with that country’s document set, while your Canadian office keeps the purchase order.

What minimum temperature should we give you for hose working an Alberta or Saskatchewan winter?

The lowest ambient the hose will see while idle and while being moved, not just while running. That number, rather than the working pressure, decides the compound: a standard compound stiffens well above prairie winter temperatures, while low-temperature constructions stay flexible. We specify low-temperature material wherever an assembly is exposed outdoors through the winter.

Why does a frozen hose fail hours after start-up rather than straight away?

Because the damage happens when it is bent cold. Below its rated temperature an elastomer behaves like plastic, so flexing a hose that sat outside overnight can crack the tube without marking the cover. The leak appears later, once the machine warms up and pressurises. Low-temperature constructions avoid that, which makes it a specification choice rather than a quality one.

Is the Canadian customs entry raised by us or by you?

By you or your nominated customs broker, as importer of record. We supply the commercial invoice, packing list, Dubai Chamber attested certificate of origin and material certificates traceable to heat number; the entry itself is raised on your side. For goods heading on to an overseas site, shipping them direct from Dubai keeps them out of the Canadian entry entirely.

Can a part fly into Calgary for an oil sands breakdown?

Yes — typically 3–6 days from Dubai into Calgary or Toronto, with a connection. It earns its cost when a machine is down for a part that Canadian distribution does not stock, such as a GOST or DIN fitting on imported equipment. Have your broker ready before the flight lands, and we confirm the onward leg to Fort McMurray or site at quotation.

Do you hold the metric and BSP fittings that European-built machines in Canada use?

Yes. DIN 2353 bite-type fittings, metric hose ends and BSP threads are everyday stock for us, because the markets we serve run on them. If an imported machine has connections a local distributor cannot match, send a photograph with a caliper reading of the thread and seat — that is normally enough to identify the fitting and quote it.

Can you quote CIF Montreal and deliver to our site in Edmonton or Sudbury?

Yes. We quote CIF Montreal, DAP to the buyer’s site, FOB Jebel Ali, or EXW Dubai for a nominated forwarder. For an inland site the useful comparison is DAP against your own onward arrangement, and we price the inland leg at quotation — choosing Vancouver rather than Montreal where the delivery is in western Canada.
