Supplying Chile, in detail

Why does a container from Dubai take seven weeks to reach San Antonio?

Because there is no short sea route from the Gulf to the Pacific coast of South America. The routing rounds the Cape of Good Hope, crosses the South Atlantic, tranships and transits the Panama Canal, giving 40 to 52 days to San Antonio or Valparaíso. Nothing in the Chilean customs file adds to that; the transit is distance, and the answer to it is planning rather than air freight.

What makes it worth buying from Dubai for a Chilean mine?

Planned consumables, not breakdowns. Spiral hose, crimp fittings and valve spares quoted against a specification and shipped once in a consolidated container land well below the cost of the same parts sourced against a shutdown date. For anything urgent we are the wrong supplier on this lane and will say so. The value is in batching what you already know you will consume.

Should our cargo go to San Antonio or to Antofagasta and Mejillones?

San Antonio or Valparaíso for Santiago, the central valley and the south; Antofagasta or Mejillones for the northern mining region around Calama, Escondida and Chuquicamata. The northern ports are reached by transhipment and take 44 to 56 days against 40 to 52 for San Antonio, but they save a road leg of well over a thousand kilometres to the mines.

What does Chilean customs require for hydraulic hose and fittings?

Very little: Chile has one of the lighter import regimes on the continent, with no general pre-shipment conformity scheme, inspection or registration for industrial hose and fittings. The file is the customs import declaration raised by the importer through Aduanas, our invoice, a packing list in Spanish matching the declaration, the bill of lading and a Dubai Chamber attested certificate of origin.

Can you deliver to mine sites above Calama and Antofagasta?

Yes, on DAP terms to the mine gate. The road leg from Antofagasta, Mejillones or Calama up to a site at three thousand metres or more is quoted, not estimated, because it is a real climb on a real road with its own access rules. CIF San Antonio or a northern port is also available if your logistics provider handles the inland move.

How does Atacama altitude change the hose and seal specification?

It changes what we recommend. At three thousand metres and above, seal compounds, cooling capacity and cycle life behave differently from the datasheet, and suction lines see more vacuum. Tell us the site altitude and the machine at quotation, and we flag where a standard specification is the wrong choice before the container is loaded rather than after the first failure.

Which flexible connections should we specify for seismic movement in Chilean plants?

Flexible sections wherever a line crosses between independently mounted equipment, installed with slack and a bend radius that lets them move. Rigid pipework transmits ground movement straight to a flange, which is where fractures appear after an earthquake. A hose pulled tight between two fixed points behaves like a rigid member with a weaker wall. Where temperature or media rule out rubber, braided metallic hose does the same job.

Do you supply hose to SAE J517, EN 856 and ISO 18752 for Chilean haul fleets?

Yes. We supply spiral and braided hydraulic hose and the matching crimp fittings to SAE J517, EN 853, EN 856 and ISO 18752 references, with JIC, ORFS, SAE flange and metric end connections. Mine specifications in Chile usually cite one of these per machine, so send the specification or the existing hose markings and we match line by line, with material and test certificates where required.

Do Chilean import documents have to be in Spanish?

Yes. The documents are in Spanish, and the description of each line has to agree across the invoice, the packing list and the declaration made through Aduanas. We fix that wording at quotation and confirm the mine specification line by line before the container is loaded, so nothing is reworded once the vessel has sailed.

How fast can air freight reach Santiago when a line is down?

Typically 6 to 9 days from Dubai to Santiago (SCL) with a connection, quoted per shipment. It makes sense for a single critical assembly or valve; it rarely makes sense for bulk consumables, which belong in the planned sea consignment. Onward delivery from Santiago to the north is quoted with the air freight when the site is in the mining region.

How should a Chilean mine plan a shutdown order from Dubai?

Work back from the shutdown date by the sea transit plus clearance: 40 to 52 days to San Antonio, 44 to 56 to Antofagasta or Mejillones. Send the shutdown scope, the part list or hose markings, the site altitude and the delivery point; we quote in US dollars on CIF, DAP to the mine gate, FOB Jebel Ali or EXW Dubai, and consolidate it into one consignment.

Do you supply hydraulics for the salmon farms and fleet around Puerto Montt?

Yes — hose assemblies, fittings and valves for cranes, winches, net-handling and deck machinery on aquaculture workboats and fishing vessels in the south.
