Supplying South Sudan, in detail

How do goods get from Dubai to Juba?

Usually by sea from Jebel Ali to Mombasa, then about eighteen hundred kilometres by road along the Northern Corridor through Kenya and Uganda, crossing into South Sudan at Elegu and Nimule. It is the more consistently usable of the two corridors. Air freight into Juba is quoted where the schedule and routing permit, and the corridor is confirmed at quotation rather than assumed.

Why will you not state a transit time to South Sudan?

Because both corridors are conditional. The northern route runs through Sudan, a country at war; the southern one is Mombasa plus eighteen hundred kilometres of road through Uganda with two border crossings. Publishing a band would be a promise about circumstances no supplier controls, so the routing and timing are confirmed per consignment at quotation.

Is Port Sudan ever used for South Sudan cargo?

Only where that northern corridor is operating at the time, and we treat it as conditional. It means transiting a country in armed conflict, so we confirm it against what is actually usable rather than defaulting to it. For most consignments the southern route through Mombasa and Nimule is the one we quote.

What screening do you carry out before quoting for South Sudan?

Counterparty and end-use screening is completed before we quote rather than after. We check who the buyer is, what the equipment is for and where it will be installed, because South Sudan is subject to measures that make those the first questions. Where we cannot satisfy ourselves, we decline plainly and promptly.

What documents does a South Sudan consignment travel with?

On the southern corridor, Kenyan and Ugandan transit documents are raised by the forwarder at Mombasa before the road leg, and the importer lodges the South Sudanese customs declaration at the border. The goods also carry a Certificate of Origin attested by the Dubai Chamber. Documents are prepared only after screening clears.

Can you deliver to the oilfields in Upper Nile and Unity?

Where the route can be committed, we quote DAP to the base. Where it cannot, we quote to a nominated point such as Juba or Mombasa and say so, rather than implying a field delivery to Paloch or Bentiu that we cannot stand behind. Every consignment is screened for counterparty and end use first.

Do you supply wellhead and flow iron for South Sudan's oilfields?

Yes, subject to screening. We supply API 6A wellhead and valve equipment, flow iron, choke and kill hose and pumping consumables, including TechnipFMC, Cameron (SLB), SPM, Anson, Stream-Flo and WOM equipment. Material and test certificates are supplied where the contract calls for them. We supply to the contractor or end user once screening clears.

How far ahead should we order for South Sudan?

Further than you would like. On a corridor this long and this conditional, consolidating a quarter of requirements into one planned consignment is worth far more than reacting to failures. Put seals, filter elements and wear hose on the same quotation as the pump or cylinder, as a separately priced block you can decline.

Do you carry cargo insurance on the South Sudan corridors?

Cover is arranged per consignment, and its scope varies with the corridor. It is priced into the quotation and we state what is and is not covered before you accept. On a route with two border crossings, knowing where cover starts and ends matters as much as the premium.

Is air freight available to Juba?

Yes, into Juba where the schedule and routing permit, quoted per consignment. Air suits critical spares, such as a hose assembly, valve or seal kit holding up a pump or rig, where waiting for the next road consignment costs more than the freight. Screening applies exactly as it does for sea and road cargo.

Can you make up hose assemblies before they ship to South Sudan?

Yes. Assemblies are cut, crimped and pressure-tested in Dubai and shipped as finished items, each tagged with the hose, the fittings and the test date. That avoids depending on crimping capacity at the far end of an eighteen-hundred-kilometre road. Send lengths, end fittings and working pressure, or the old assembly's tag.
