A rope is only as strong as its termination

Wire rope is chosen on construction, core and tensile grade: more wires per strand bend more easily over a sheave, a steel core (IWRC) resists crushing and adds strength, and a higher grade carries more for the same diameter. Then the termination decides what the assembly can carry — a thimble protects the eye from kinking, clips must be the right number, the right way round and torqued, and a ferrule has to be pressed with the die made for it.

Standards for terminations

Ferrule-secured eyes are covered by EN 13411-3 (the successor to DIN 3093) and lifting-grade wire rope clips by EN 13411-5 (which replaced DIN 1142). DIN 741 malleable clips are not intended for lifting terminations. Thimbles follow DIN 6899 and BS 464, or the US standard and extra-heavy patterns.

Questions we get asked

About this range

01How many wire rope clips does an eye need?
It depends on the rope diameter and the clip type, and the clip maker's table is the authority. The U-bolt goes on the dead (short) end and the saddle on the live end — "never saddle a dead horse" — and the nuts are re-torqued after the first load.
02What is the difference between a fibre core and a steel core?
A fibre core (FC) makes the rope more flexible; an independent wire rope core (IWRC) resists crushing on a drum and carries a higher breaking load for the same diameter. The size tables give both where the manufacturer publishes them.
03Do the parts come with test certificates?
Yes. Each consignment ships with the manufacturer's test certificate. If your site needs more — third-party certification or witnessed proof testing — say so on the RFQ and we will confirm what we can arrange.

Delivery

Wire Rope & Fittings across the Gulf

Ex-stock from Dubai, delivered within 3 working days in the UAE.

Rigging hardware is bought on its working load limit and its certificate, and both travel with the part: every shackle, hook, chain and sling ships from Dubai with the manufacturer's test certificate, so the receiving inspection checks a document against a stamp rather than a claim. Hardware and fittings go by air or courier in cartons; wire rope, chain, hoists and anchors are heavy enough that sea freight is usually the sensible answer.
