- lay-flat slurry drag
Product description
The drag hose of a slurry umbilical system — the length the tractor pulls across the field while the applicator spreads or injects manure. It is dragged and turned constantly, so it is built with a heavier wall than supply hose, strong ply adhesion, and a cover that resists abrasion, kinking, hydrolysis, fungus and the manure itself.
Construction
- Tube and cover: TPU, extruded through the jacket in one pass — no adhesive to fail
- Reinforcement: circular-woven high-tenacity polyester
- Wall: 2.7 mm at 2-1/2" up to 6.0 mm at 8"
- Temperature: -50 °C to +80 °C
- Colour: red, for visibility in the field
Pressure and sizes
21 bar at 2-1/2", 17 bar at 3", 12 bar at 4" and 10 bar from 5" to 8", with burst at three times working pressure. Tensile strength runs from 8,300 kg to 53,700 kg. The Sizes & Part Numbers tab lists all 9 sizes, including 5-1/2" and 7-1/2".
Installation and care
- Unroll the hose fully and lay it out straight before pressurising; a hose pressurised on the reel or with twists can kink and burst.
- Run it along the shortest practical route, away from sharp edges and hot surfaces, and protect it with hose ramps where vehicles cross.
- Raise and lower pressure gradually. Closing a valve suddenly on a long line causes a surge that can exceed the working pressure.
- Stay within the working pressure of the size in use; burst pressure is a test figure, never an operating limit.
- After use, drain the hose, flush it if it carried slurry, fuel or concrete, and roll it flat from the far end to push out what is left.
- Store coils out of direct sunlight and away from sharp objects, and inspect the cover and coupling bands before each deployment.
How to order
Quote the Indus part number, or send the bore, the length you need, the fluid and the end connections. We supply bulk coils or made-up assemblies with couplings fitted and banded. Price and lead time are confirmed with the quotation.

I.D. (mm) — Inside diameter in millimetres with its tolerance, as published. Wall (mm) — Wall thickness in millimetres, as published — a single figure or a band. Min burst — Minimum burst pressure. A test figure, never a working limit — never select on it. Weight — Weight of the hose per metre, as published. Tensile strength — Axial tensile strength of the hose, as published — what a lay-flat line can carry hanging in a well or dragged behind a tractor.
Working pressure is the published rating for the hose itself. A made-up assembly is limited by its lowest-rated part, so check it against the coupling, the clamp or ferrule, and the temperature you are running at.

Slurry drag hose: choosing 4", 5" or 6", and making it last
The drag hose is the part of an umbilical system that works hardest: pulled, turned and scrubbed across the field all day. Size it too small and the pump fights friction; too big and the tractor fights the weight. How to choose between 4", 5" and 6" drag hose, how supply and drag sizes fit together, and what shortens — and extends — drag hose life.

Slurry umbilical systems explained: supply line, drag hose, reels and couplings
An umbilical system pumps slurry from the store through a hose to an applicator on the tractor — no tankers, no road trips, far less soil compaction. With low-emission spreading now required across Ireland, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Scotland, it is how many farms and contractors meet the rules. How the system is laid out, what each hose does, and how to choose supply line, drag hose, couplings and reels.

Low-emission slurry spreading rules in Europe: Ireland, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and the UK
Splash plates are on their way out across north-west Europe. Ireland’s LESS rules now reach farms above 100 kg organic N per hectare; Germany requires strip application on grassland from February 2025; Denmark and the Netherlands have required low-emission methods for years; Scotland bans splash plates and goes further in 2027. What each country requires, which equipment counts, and what it means for hose.
