Grade 80 Single-Leg Chain Sling, Sling Hook and Grab Hook — Type SSG

Grade 80 single-leg chain sling made up with a sling hook with safety latch at the top and a grab hook at the bottom. The chain and every fitting are Grade 80 alloy steel, quenched and tempered, and matched in size so that no component is the weak point.

What SSG means

Chain sling make-ups are named by a letter code read from the top down: S = single leg; S = sling hook with safety latch; G = grab hook. So an SSG sling is a single leg sling with a sling hook with safety latch at the top and a grab hook at the bottom.

Sizes and ratings

21 chain sizes, 4 mm to 50 mm. Working load limit 0.5 to 78.5 t in a straight vertical lift, at a 4:1 design factor. Used in a choke hitch the rating falls to 80% of the figure in the table. Each size has its own Indus part number below.

Choosing this make-up

A sling hook is the general-purpose end fitting: the spring latch closes the throat so the hook cannot slip off a slack lifting point. A grab hook has a narrow throat that seats across a single chain link, so a leg can be hooked back onto its own chain to shorten it or to wrap the load.

Identification and certificate

Each sling carries a permanent tag with its serial number, chain size, grade, reach and working load limit, and ships with the manufacturer's test certificate. The rating on the tag and certificate is the one that governs the sling in service.
