Sizes and ratings
5 sizes, 8 mm (5/16″) to 20 mm (3/4″). Working load limit 2.5 to 16 t. Every size has its own Indus part number in the table below, with the loads in the unit the manufacturer rates them in. The lettered dimensions refer to the dimension drawing in the gallery.
Choosing a size
A foundry hook has a wide, open throat with no latch, made for trunnions, ladle bails and handles too thick for a sling hook. Size it to the chain: each row is the hook for one Grade 100 chain size and carries that chain's working load limit.
Ordering
Quote the Indus part number from the size table, or send the size and working load you need. Each consignment ships with the manufacturer's test certificate; say on the RFQ if your site needs anything more.

Size — Nominal size as the manufacturer states it. WLL — Working load limit — the most the part may carry in service, as the manufacturer rates it. WLL — Working load limit — the most the part may carry in service, as the manufacturer rates it. A — Dimension A on the manufacturer dimension drawing. H — Dimension H on the manufacturer dimension drawing. K — Dimension K on the manufacturer dimension drawing. P — Dimension P on the manufacturer dimension drawing. T — Dimension T on the manufacturer dimension drawing. Weight — Weight as the manufacturer publishes it. Ask us for the dimension drawing if you need it stamped.
WLL is the most the part may carry in service. Proof and breaking loads are test figures — never lift to them. Each load is shown in the unit the manufacturer rates the part in, and a size ships with the manufacturer’s test certificate.

Shortening a chain sling: clutches, cradle grab hooks and the 20% rule
Uneven loads and off-centre lifting points need legs of different lengths, and a chain sling with shorteners adjusts on the spot. But not every grab hook carries the full chain rating when it shortens a leg. Shortening clutches, cradle and conventional grab hooks, when a maker requires a 20% reduction, and what must never be used instead.

Chain sling codes explained: SOS, DOS, TOS, QOS and the hook letters
A chain sling code such as DOSL or QOG describes the whole assembly: how many legs, what is at the top and what is on the end. How to read the codes, which hook does what, and why a four-leg sling is rated the same as a three-leg one.

Chain sling capacity chart: Grade 80 and Grade 100 WLL by legs and angle
Working load limits for Grade 80 chain slings from 4 mm to 50 mm and Grade 100 from 6 mm to 26 mm, for one, two, three and four legs at both angle bands — with the factors behind them, the choke and temperature reductions, and a worked sizing example.
