Product description
Grade 80 two-leg chain sling made up with an oblong master link at the top and a sling hook with safety latch on each of the two legs. The chain and every fitting are Grade 80 alloy steel, quenched and tempered, and matched in size so that no component is the weak point.
What DOS means
Chain sling make-ups are named by a letter code read from the top down: D = double leg; O = oblong master link; S = sling hook with safety latch. So a DOS sling is a double leg sling with an oblong master link at the top and a sling hook with safety latch on each of its two legs.
Sizes and ratings
21 chain sizes, 4 mm to 50 mm. Working load limit 0.7 to 109.9 t with the legs up to 45° from vertical, and 0.5 to 78.5 t between 45° and 60°, at a 4:1 design factor. Each size has its own Indus part number below.
Reading the two WLL columns
The rating of a multi-leg sling depends on how far the legs spread. The table heads its columns by the angle between opposite legs: "up to 90°" means each leg is no more than 45° from vertical, and "90–120°" means each leg is between 45° and 60° from vertical. A chain sling is never used with its legs more than 60° from vertical. The ratings assume the load is shared evenly between the legs.
Choosing this make-up
A sling hook is the general-purpose end fitting: the spring latch closes the throat so the hook cannot slip off a slack lifting point.
Identification and certificate
Each sling carries a permanent tag with its serial number, chain size, grade, reach and working load limit, and ships with the manufacturer's test certificate. The rating on the tag and certificate is the one that governs the sling in service.
Ordering
Slings are made up to length. Quote the Indus part number for the chain size and the reach you need, measured from the bearing point of the top fitting to the bearing point of the hook, or send the load, the number of lifting points and the headroom and we will size the sling for you.

Size — Nominal size as the manufacturer states it. WLL, up to 90° — Working load limit — the most the part may carry in service, as the manufacturer rates it. WLL, 90–120° — Working load limit — the most the part may carry in service, as the manufacturer rates it. Ask us for the dimension drawing if you need it stamped.
WLL is the most the part may carry in service. Proof and breaking loads are test figures — never lift to them. Each load is shown in the unit the manufacturer rates the part in, and a size ships with the manufacturer’s test certificate.

Steel erection rigging equipment: slings, shackles, clamps and tag lines for steelwork
Erecting structural steel means hundreds of lifts of awkward, heavy, edge-sharp members, often at height and in wind. The rigging kit a steel erection crew needs — chain slings, shackles, beam and plate clamps, lifting points, tag lines — how to choose each, and the rules that apply to multiple lifts, clamps and tag lines.

Chain sling codes explained: SOS, DOS, TOS, QOS and the hook letters
A chain sling code such as DOSL or QOG describes the whole assembly: how many legs, what is at the top and what is on the end. How to read the codes, which hook does what, and why a four-leg sling is rated the same as a three-leg one.
