Product description
Alloy lifting chain for chain slings and hoists. Alloy steel.
Sizes and ratings
12 sizes, 6 mm (1/4″) to 26 mm (1″). Working load limit 1,150 to 20,000 kg. Minimum breaking load 45 to 800 kN. Every size has its own Indus part number in the table below, with the loads in the unit the manufacturer rates them in.
Choosing a size
Use it with fittings of the same grade and size, and select on WLL for the sling configuration. Proof and breaking forces are test figures.
Ordering
Quote the Indus part number from the size table, or send the size and working load you need. Each consignment ships with the manufacturer's test certificate; say on the RFQ if your site needs anything more.

Size — Nominal size as the manufacturer states it. WLL — Working load limit — the most the part may carry in service, as the manufacturer rates it. Proof load — Proof or test load the manufacturer applies to the part. A test figure — never a working limit. Min breaking load — Minimum breaking load. A test figure — never lift to it. Inside length — Inside length of the link or bow. Inside width — Inside width of the link or jaw. Weight — Weight per metre, as published. Ask us for the dimension drawing if you need it stamped.
WLL is the most the part may carry in service. Proof and breaking loads are test figures — never lift to them. Each load is shown in the unit the manufacturer rates the part in, and a size ships with the manufacturer’s test certificate.

Working load limit vs breaking strength: WLL, MBL, proof load and the factor between them
The breaking strength of a lifting component is not a number you lift to. It is the WLL multiplied by a design factor, and that factor runs from 4:1 on alloy chain to 7:1 on polyester slings. Here is how the four ratings relate, worked through with figures from our own tables.

Types of lifting slings: chain, wire rope, webbing and round slings compared
Chain slings survive heat, edges and rough handling. Wire rope slings are strong and stiff. Webbing and round slings are light and gentle on finished surfaces, but cut easily and stop at 100 °C. Here is how the four compare, and how to choose for the load in front of you.

Chain grades explained: Grade 30, 43, 70, 80 and 100, and which can lift overhead
Chain grade is a statement about the steel, and it decides two things: how much a given size carries, and whether it may be used overhead at all. Grades 30, 43 and 70 are for tie-down and towing. Only alloy Grade 80 and Grade 100 are lifting chain. Here is the whole ladder, with figures from our own tables.
