Molykote G-804 Silicone Compound

A stiff, nonmelting lubricant that will not carbonize and will remain serviceable at temperatures from -40° to 204°C (-40° to 400°F) and exhibits a very low vapor pressure.

About this type of lubricant

Compounds are silicone-based, non-melting greases used less for friction than for sealing, insulating and protecting. Typical duty is dielectric insulation and moisture-sealing of electrical connections, lubrication and sealing of rubber and plastic parts, valve and O-ring assembly, and vacuum sealing.

How to choose

Compounds do not carry high mechanical loads — if the point is a loaded bearing or gear, a grease or paste is the right family. The silicone caution applies here too: a compound on a surface that will later be painted, bonded or printed will cause the coating to fail. On rubber and elastomer components, confirm compatibility with the specific elastomer — silicone compounds are excellent on most, and wrong on silicone rubber itself.
