This helps protect the insulator from glaze damage when the coating’s water repellency is significantly diminished and arcing is experienced. Another benefit of MOLYKOTE® 3099 HVIC Compound is the ease of handling. The compound is easy to spread, not stringy, and shows good adhesion to properly prepared insulators

Applications

Used to give a protective coating to electrical insulators. The consistency of the compound provides easy application to the required coating thickness. About this type of lubricant

Compounds are silicone-based, non-melting greases used less for friction than for sealing, insulating and protecting. Typical duty is dielectric insulation and moisture-sealing of electrical connections, lubrication and sealing of rubber and plastic parts, valve and O-ring assembly, and vacuum sealing.

How to choose

Compounds do not carry high mechanical loads — if the point is a loaded bearing or gear, a grease or paste is the right family. The silicone caution applies here too: a compound on a surface that will later be painted, bonded or printed will cause the coating to fail. On rubber and elastomer components, confirm compatibility with the specific elastomer — silicone compounds are excellent on most, and wrong on silicone rubber itself.
