Molykote 1122 Chain Grease Spray

Aerosol Form: NLGI Grade 2-3 - Polyisobutylene-based grease with a base oil viscosity of 1500 cSt at 40°C, no thickener, uses molybdenum disulfide and graphite as solid lubricants.

Applications

Used for initial lubrication of chains with hollow pins equipped with grease nipples (e.g., high tenter clamp chains in the textile industry and conveyor chains in food sterilizer units). Also used for gear drives and open gears; sliding bearings operating at low speeds and high temperatures, such as bearings in drying systems; and calendering machines used in various industrial processes.

About this type of lubricant

A dispersion is solid lubricant — usually molybdenum disulfide, graphite or PTFE — suspended in a carrier oil or solvent so it can be brushed, sprayed, dipped or added to an oil system. The carrier delivers the solids to the surface and then evaporates or blends away, leaving the solid lubricant behind.

How to choose

Dispersions are used for running-in, for pre-treating surfaces before first operation, and as an additive to an existing oil charge to carry a machine through break-in or a period of marginal lubrication. Where a dispersion is added to a circulating system, confirm compatibility with the filtration first — solid lubricant particles and fine filters do not agree.
