Drill Pipe Float Valve, Size 5F-6R (6-5/8″ Reg)

A size 5F-6R drill pipe float valve sits in the float sub or bit sub above the bit and stops drilling fluid and cuttings flowing back up the string when circulation stops, when connections are made, and in a kick. Size 5F-6R fits subs cut with a 6-5/8″ API Reg, 7-5/8″ API Reg, 5-1/2″ API FH and 5-1/2″ API IF connection. We supply it new in Model FA, Model G and Model GA (plunger and flapper) from Baker-pattern manufacturers.

Part numbers are as cast on the valve cage or listed by the maker. Baker-pattern valves of the same size and model interchange in the same sub.

Models

• Model FA (plunger, ported): Model F with a port that partially fills the drill pipe while running in and lets you read pressure below the valve.
• Model G (flapper): Full-opening flapper that swings clear of the bore, for abrasive fluids and unrestricted flow.
• Model GA (flapper, ported): Model G with a hardened 1/4 in tungsten-carbide orifice in the flapper, so differential pressure can be read at surface.

Dimensions

Models F and G share the same outside dimensions, so either fits the same float sub or bored-out drill collar.

• Forum rates its Model F and G valves at 7,500 psi working pressure; we confirm the rating of other makes on the quotation.
• If more than one float valve runs in the same string, space them apart.
• Choose a ported model (FA or GA) when you need to read shut-in drill pipe pressure or want the string to fill partly while running in.
